Let us take a look at the speech of the greatest Christian to ever lived and the apostle to the Gentiles. Which most of us are Gentiles and not Jews.
1 Corinthians 2:4 (KJV) And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
Paul did not use enticing words of man’s wisdom in his speech and preaching. Charismatics often complain to street preachers “you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.” Then the street preacher replies back, “I am trying to get lost people saved by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am not trying to catch flies.”
2 Corinthians 3:12 (KJV) ¶ Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
The apostle Paul spoke plain. He did not sugar coat his preaching like so many do today. A person today can listen to hours and hours of so-called preaching and never understand how to be saved.
2 Corinthians 10:10 (KJV) For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
Paul’s speech was contemptible. I guess Paul did not read Dale Carnegie’s book How to Win Friends and Influence People like all the modern preachers.
2 Corinthians 11:6 (KJV) But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse. Now scripture tells us that Paul is rude. Christians these days do not care about the truth, just the tone of the speaker. The modern Christian confuses tone and presentation with the truth. The more professional the presentation, the more worthy the speaker is to be heard. Who cares if the speaker is telling the truth. It is all in the tone and presentation.
Romans 16:17 (KJV) ¶ Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
Romans 16:18 (KJV) For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
OH NO!!! Scripture now warns us about those that use good words and fair speeches to deceive the hearts of the simple. These verses that describe the speech, teaching, and preaching of Paul is in great contrast to the modern day preachers. These verses are warning us that there is something terribly wrong with the modern preachers of today. The problem is not just with the preachers of today. The modern day Christian has become a snowflake that cannot handle the truth. A man that is looking for the truth will take it, no matter how it is dished out to him. The Bible is a rough book. The problem with the Bible is that it is hard to believe, not understand.
